On a gorgeous fall Saturday, UGA Rugby hosted an alumni tailgate for the Oklahoma/UGA football game. We had around 40 alumni and guests join the current team for a great day of sharing food, drinks, and stories. Some alumni travel great distances to be here, and a few made their first appearances in almost 30 years! Thanks to everyone who came and made the event such a great success, especially those who contributed food, drink, and help with setup and breakdown.

UP NEXT:  Our next match is against Alabama, in Tuscaloosa on the night of Friday, Oct 9th.  This is a big one, as it’s our first opportunity to see how we stack up against one of our “tier 1” conference opponents this fall.  Both programs will be looking to make statements with their performance. As usual, we’ll plan to livestream it to the UGA Rugby YouTube channel. Whether you can join us in Tuscaloosa or watch it online, we appreciate your support!

After several years of holding the event in the cold, bleak winter, UGA Rugby brought the traditional alumni match back to the fall this past weekend. The event was successful across multiple fronts.

The coaches got a good look at various players and combinations against a group of very solid alumni players. What we saw was very encouraging, and we gleaned valuable insights into areas to focus on. We also got our B-siders some much-needed minutes. With a taste of what it’s like to play rugby against experience. they also have a better idea of what it takes to play at a higher level.

We also had a strong alumni turnout, with 3 dozen UGA ruggers old and young showed up to show their support for the current team and to share food, beverages, and laughs, and to further strengthen the bonds that make UGA Rugby so unique.
