The University of Georgia RFC Alumni Association organized a great weekend in Athens to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club. The 3 day celebration featured a great welcome reception at Creature Comforts Brewery, a Saturday match versus bitter rival Georgia Tech RFC and a formal banquet on Saturday night. Everyone in attendance was smiling and laughing as they shared stories from the many historic matches the club has participated in.
During the banquet, the club welcomed Fred Oliver as a "Lifetime Member", the highest honor of the Alumni Association. After dinner, members of the board announced 5 All-Decade Teams and the group was treated by a surprise visit from the voice of retired UGA Head Football Coach -Vince Dooley.
Founding member, Brian Fitch addressed the group and shared a detailed back story of how the club was founded, how they recruited players and the immediate impact they had on the culture of Athens.
By all accounts a great night to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UGARFC.
Here's to another 50!
