UGA RUGBY
Frequenty Asked Questions

Q:  I don't know anything about rugby...can I still play?
A:  YES.  We understand that rugby is not as popular a sport in this area, and therefore not many people know how to play.  We are happy to teach anyone who is willing to learn.

Q:  Can I get a scholarship to UGA by playing rugby?
A:  Unfortunately, NO.  Unlike football or basketball, varsity sports in which athletes are given scholarships, Rugby is only a club sport at the University of Georgia, so we receive very little funding from the school.  We have to do fundraising just to pay for our team expenses.

Q:  I don't think I'm big enough to play rugby. Will I be any good?
A:  Rugby is not a game where size is the most important factor.  More important than size is fitness and knowledge of the game. Rugby is a sport such that a smaller, fit player who knows where to be and when to be there is much more helpful than a larger, slower player who may know where to be, but can't get there in time.  Not to say that size doesn't help, but it's not the most important factor.
