UGA 29 Augusta 20
Athens, Georgia
Saturday September 22, 2007
Referee: Wofford
Our second game of the season was against Augusta men's club. They brought up a big, strong side which was a physical challenge for us. We started quickly with some runs through their centers but they controlled the last 25 minutes of the first half as we struggled to maintain possession. The second half was a series of errors on both sides (silly penalties by us and knock-ons by them) until with about 15 minutes left our fitness took over. We pushed in 3 tries in the last 15 minutes for a 29-20 win.
We have a lot to work on, but to get this win against a physically imposing side when we did so many things wrong is important to this team and suggests that we have a chance to have a good season.
Men of the match were Jake Hayden and Ryan Cooke.

North Georgia is a new team who just started playing last year. They also brought up a more physical side than we had (notice a trend?). We played a strong game and managed to maintain possession reasonably well. North Georgia had some big runs and big hits but also spent a lot of time running sideways, which helped us out a lot.

Augusta mixed their new guys with some A-siders and played a strong final period. We took an early lead but were unable to maintain possession and had trouble breaking the gainline. Augusta was able to do what we couldn't and managed multiple phases and then took advantage of our disorganized defense.
