UGA 15 Tennessee B 15

Athens, GA
Saturday February 12, 2005, 2:00 pm
Referee: Graeme Payne

We played Tennessee's B-side while our alumni played their A-side. Tennessee started quickly with an unconverted try in the 6th minute. We responded with a penalty kick by Harrison DeJarnett a couple minutes later to make it 5-3.

In the 15th minute Tenn scored another unconverted try to make it 10-3. Ten minutes later we took a lineout and Charles split their backs and then fed Kellen for a nice 40 meter try. Brian Lake converted to make it 10-10. Just before half Tennessee scored yet another unconverted try to make it 15-10.

In the second half we missed a penalty kick in the 2nd minute. Tennessee had a player yellow carded in the 18th minute and we took advantage as Tim scored an unconverted try in the 25th minute to tie things at 15. A few minutes after Tennessee was back at full strength they had a penalty deep inside our own end and Eric Stephenson made the tackle well before 10 meters and was sent to the sin bin.

The last 10 minutes were spent defending deep in our own end, down a man. We held on and kept them out of the try zone and the game ended in a 15-15 tie.

Man of the match was Harrison DeJarnett who played a very strong game from his 8-man spot.

Tennessee A 30 UGA Old Boys 10

Tennessee looked strong in this game. Their forwards consistently beat ours to the breakdown and they had possession for long stretches. Most of their successes came through the centers as both of their centers ran very hard and broke some tackles. Halftime score was 14-3.

In the second half UGA tired and Tennessee kept attacking, putting in 4 tries. Georgia's try came on a 50 meter intercept by Matt Midgett.

We are very thankful to the Georgia Old Boys who came up to help us out this weekend. It was a great weekend for the team. It was wonderful to be able to have a competitive game against a well drilled Tennessee side and then to watch a good game afterwards and learn from that.

Man of the match was Nico Vayo.
