The game started getting messy and there were penalties all over the place. App St. took a quick tap off a penalty in the 11th minute and scored a try which was converted. UGA 7, App St. 7

The sloppy play started catching up to us as Ryan Terry was yellow carded for a high tackle and sent to the bin in the 24th minute. We moved the ball well down the field a man down, and Nico Vayo pop kicked over the defenders, picked it off one bounce and took it in for the try in the 27th minute. Brian Lake converted. UGA 14, App St. 7

In the 29th minute, while playing the ball on a kick, Sean Catlett made contact with an App St. player in the air; he was yellow carded and sent to the bin. The rest of the half was pretty uneventful, but we held off a couple drives of App St. while down two men, one ending with a maul in the try zone and an App St. knock-on. We regained full strength one minute before the half.

Off a scrum we took a weak side play to the wing who took it to the try line but was pushed out. UGA stole the App St. 5-meter line-out and got the ball out to Marc Thomas who scored the try in the 52nd minute, converted by Brian Lake. UGA 21, App St. 7

In the 60th minute we took over an App St. drive, and off the broken play Craig Holland took the ball about 40 meters, Charles Campbell picked the ball, passed to John Stafford, who passed to Kevin Wilson and he took it to the corner for the try. The second game was played as 3 20-minute periods. The first period started very slow and messy, understandable as many players on each team were playing their first game. The game started picking up some flow as we went and after pressuring for most of the period, App State put in a well earned unconverted try in the 17th minute.

The second period flowed better than the first, whether because they were figuring some things out or were simply tired of scrumming down is open for debate. In the 30th minute Martin Mueller crashed over for UGA, with the missed conversion the score was tied 5-5.

App State took the lead again in the beginning of the third period with another unconverted try. That's the way it stayed until the last minute of the game when Georgia finally cashed in on some pressure with a try by Ray Schreiber in the 60th minute. The conversion missed and the game ended in a tie, 10-10.

Overall it was a good showing from our new players and we look forward to their continuing development.
