In Athens, Georgia's men's club rugby was taught a lesson in clinical finishing by the returning Old Alumni. The Piglets brushed aside their opponents in the annual Homecoming fixture on Friday, with a 50-3 win.
A Daniel van Dijk penalty from the game's first attack gave Georgia false hopes, before the Piglets ran riot at the Intramural fields. In the end, the alumni's strength proved too great for a weak Georgia side.
The men's club now must prepare for a daunting trip to North Carolina on Nov. 26. Coach Ray Chastain said he and his team are hoping to settle old scores.
He said, "Carolina knocked us out of the regionals last year, and we're looking forward to getting another chance to play them. This will be a really big test for us to see how we measure up against one of the better teams in the south. Our guys are really fired up for this game."
