In Tuscaloosa, men's rugby team members Blake Richter and Trevor Maliro scored two tries apiece as Georgia was victorious over the Crimson Tide. Jullian Harris and Peter Smith added further points in a thrilling fixture. But in the end, Georgia proved too strong for a rugged Alabama side.
"I feel that this team has the makings of a great team," coach Mark Smith said. "And I think that if we want it bad enough, we can make it to the championships in the spring."
Try scorer Blake Richter said, "I thought we played extremely well against tough opposition. They made us work hard, but we rose to the challenge. We racked up a lot of points and showed that we can work hard for each other."
"We're showing signs of improvement and we're definitely getting better every game," he said.
There is plenty more action for rugby enthusiasts to look forward to Saturday as Georgia's men's rugby club hosts the annual Georgia Rugby Union Tourney.
Group A consists of Auburn, Georgia Tech and Clemson 2nd, and Group B is made up of Georgia, Clemson and Georgia South.
